About the Haiti Humanitarian Fund
Although "Twinning" usually means a mutual exchange of ideas, cultures, and most of all, hospitality, in the program that originated in 1978 as "adopt a parish," Haiti must be considered a mission in progress.
The common goal of the Haiti Humanitarian Fund is to share the love of Christ with those much less fortunate. We are a self-funded group of volunteers using our own vacation time to reach out to make a difference.
Corporate Contributions
The Haiti Humanitarian Fund, Sponsored by St. Pius X Catholic Church, Conyers, GA provides basic humanitarian needs to our sister parish, Our Lady of the Presentation Parish of Los Palis, Haiti and its seven surrounding mission churches in the Diocese of Hinche.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere: life expectancy is 49 years; infant mortality rate is 9.5%; average annual income is approximately $270/year; and education is a privilege. Most of these children have no food when they get to school. Without a school-sponsored lunch program, they may not eat that day.
There are 600 students in the parish school where we work and about 300 in each of the 7 mission schools. About 30% of the grammar school-aged children attend. Approximately 35 students a year will attend High School with an average of 10 students graduating, usually at about age 21. These children must walk to another village to attend High School and may sleep in the streets during the week, returning home on the weekend as the distance is too great to walk every day. An 8 classroom high school is presently under construction in Los Palis, fully financed by St Pius X, and will significantly improve upon present conditions.
A water purification system is a primary need in the community. Presently, drinking water is collected from the same river where people and animals bathe, and laundry is washed. Antifreeze jugs or any utensils with lids are rinsed out and used to carry drinking water, sometimes requiring water being carried for miles in order to have some in the home.
Administrative costs for the Humanitarian Fund are $0. We have no paid employees and all money raised goes directly to Haiti. All members of our Medical Mission pay their own travel expenses when traveling to Haiti.
Will you please help us break the cycle of poverty in Los Palis, by making a contribution payable to Haiti Humanitarian Fund? Know that you will be changing the lives of others.
Thank you for your generosity and support.
